Award ceremony

of #mostralaterra printmaking competition

 

During the morning of October 24, 2020, the jury decided the winner of the First Prize of the competition consisting of a solo exhibition at L’Armadillo. Watch the video (in italian).

The exhibition for the moment is in an online version. According to the directives of the last DPCM, L'Armadillo must remain closed, as soon as it will be possible to reopen, the exhibition will be set up as planned, in the premises in via del Porcellana 51r ​​in Florence.

 

L'Armadillo also awards a special prize through online public voting, the votes collected will then be added to the votes of visitors to the future exhibition. The author of the most voted work will be awarded the Audience Award, consisting of a 24-hour printmaking course at L’Armadillo.

The jury unanimously assigns the First Prize ex aequo to the following authors:


Maria Fernanda Pallares Colomar with the work “Il bello era ormai qui”
and Matteo Gradi with “Light Earth”

 

 

With the following motivation:

The works fully meet the criteria of the announcement such as originality of the work, consistency with the theme of the announcement, technique used, artistic curriculum.


 
Furthermore, for each of the works the jury expressed the following opinion:

“Il bello era ormai qui”

Printmaking  where the invention and the message enhance the particular poetic flavor of the image of a small crystallized Eden.

“Light Earth”

The printmaking is distinguished by the sign of classical tradition, passing from the velvety black of drypoint to light up in the lightness of a possible world.

Call for contest #mostralaterra

The #mostralaterra contest is organized by the L'Armadillo of Florence Italy, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22, 2020, with the aim of sensitizing artists to the theme of the protection of the planet and to promote, enhance and spread the world of contemporary printmaking in its different forms, traditional and experimental.

 

The event is an important opportunity because, will give the opportunity to 50 finalists, selected by the jury, to exhibit in a collective exhibition set up at the atelier in the center of Florence from April 18, 2020, the day of the opening, to May 9, 2020 and have a high visibility. Among the 50 finalists will be awarded the first prize, by the jury, consisting of a personal exhibition to be agreed with the atelier.

SUBJECT OF THE CONTEST

The theme on which artists are invited to present their works has the title #mostralaterra and has as its subject the planet Earth, its beauty and its fragility.

 

RECIPIENTS

Participation in the competition shall be open to artists of all ages and nationalities and shall be subject to compliance with all the conditions laid down in this Regulation.

Each candidate participates individually and no collective artists are allowed.

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION

Each artist may submit to the examination of the commission one’work performed after January 1st, 2019 which must not have had a regular edition, nor have been exhibited in another Award or public event. It is possible to participate with works performed through calcographic, xylographic, lithographic and serigraphic techniques.

The work shall be printed on a sheet of a maximum size 350x250 mm; the engraved matrix shall be of a maximum size of 200x150 mm.

The commission reserves the right to exclude from the competition works which are found to be in conflict with the characteristics and limitations mentioned above.

 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

To participate in the competition you must be a member of the L’Armadillo association.

 

Registration for NON-MEMBERS

Candidates who are not yet associated can only take part in the competition after registration (fill in attachment A).

The fee for participation in the competition for NON-MEMBERS is € 30,00 which includes: the membership card and reimbursement for set-up costs, by bank transfer to the IBAN IT87V0760102800001015649930 to Associazione L’Armadillo, with justification: registration association and contest #mostralaterra.

The fee for participation in the competition for MEMBERS is € 20,00 by bank transfer to the IBAN IT87V0760102800001015649930 to Associazione L’Armadillo, with justification: contest #mostralaterra.

The requested works and documents must be sent by mail or delivered by hand by March 7, 2020 to the following address: Associazione L’Armadillo - Via del Porcellana, 51r - 50123 Firenze - Italy. Attested by the postmark.

The parcel can be sent by mail or delivered directly by hand at the Atelier.

The parcel sent by post containing the work must bear the words: “PRINTS WITHOUT COMMERCIAL VALUE”. Participants are responsible for the cost of sending and any travel insurance for the works.

In the case of mail from a non-EU country it is advisable to specify in the customs form a value not exceeding € 10,00.

 

The Association, while ensuring the utmost care of the works, declines any liability arising from theft, fire and damage to them, as well as disruptions and/or delays postal and customs, that may occur before, during and after the event.

All the works presented will not be returned but can be collected personally by the interested parties without any charge to the Association within one year from the exhibition date of the exhibition. After this deadline, the prints will become the property of the Association and become part of the archive of the Atelier.

Participation in the Competition implies the acceptance of the conditions laid down in this Regulation; expresses consent to the use of personal data, which will be stored and processed at the headquarters of the Association for the sole purpose of this competition.

 

SELECTION OF WORKS AND AWARD ASSIGNMENT

Awarding of the First Prize

The jury made up of highly prestigious personalities in the field of original engraving, will evaluate at its unquestionable judgment all the works that will be received together with the participation form in the forms and terms indicated.

 

The commission will indicate the works admitted to the collective exhibition of the best 50 elaborated and will decree among the works finalists the winner of the competition, to which it will confer during the opening ceremony, on April 18, 2020, the prize consisting of a personal exhibition.

 

The proposals presented will be evaluated according to predefined criteria.

The evaluation criteria, with relative scores for a maximum of 100 points, will be the following:

1. originality of the work - up to a maximum of 30 points;

2. consistency with the theme of the call - up to a maximum of 30 points;

3. technique used - up to maximum of 30 points;

4. artistic curriculum - up to maximum of 10 points.

 

The results of the selection will be published on the website at: www.armadilloatelier51r.com/concorso-mostralaterra?lang=en and communicated via email to all participants. In addition, all participants will see their work published on the website within two months by the end of the exhibition.

 

Awarding of the Public Award

During the entire exhibition period, each visitor will be able to cast a vote on their favorite work, to be inserted in the urn present in the atelier.

The public prize will be awarded at the end of the exhibition, Saturday May 9, 2020, during the finissage and will consist in a 24-hour printmaking course, to be used within one year by the award. The winner will also be notified via email.

 

DATA PROCESSING

The candidate's personal data are processed in compliance with the legislation on the protection of privacy pursuant to art. 13 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 and art. 13 GDPR 679/16.

By sending the application, the artist expresses his consent to the aforementioned treatment.
